Dear Friends of the Cambria County Fair:
We would like to make you aware that Gov. Rendell has dropped all fair funding for 2010. We, along with numerous other organizations, find ourselves asking for your generous support. State Government funding provided support for the 114 Fairs within the Commonwealth and as a result there will be those Fairs that will not survive. Fairs are the "Showcase of Agriculture". 26,000 farm
families, along with 4-H and FFA organizations and countless others, showcase their livestock, and exhibit their agricultural products at Fair each year.
With over 6,000,000 fair goers, attending at least one of the 114 Fairs throughout the Commonwealth, Fairs are one of the largest social gathering spots in the state. We have the unique opportunity of sharing with and educating the public. We are the showcase of Pennsylvania's #1 Industry, Agriculture and the #2 Industry, Tourism, the roots of which runs deep within each community and its citizens ancestry. Fairs provide a financial boost to the local economy and allows vendors the opportunity to broaden their visibility.
In 2009 Fairs were funded at 66% while 4-H and FFA organizations were funded 100%. Fairs are the last vestige of family entertainment serving their communities in many ways; holding non-fair events, providing meeting rooms, emergency housing for animals and people, providing sales tax revenues through vendors and scholarships for young people, and providing winter storage for summer vehicles. Capital improvement projects provide jobs for local electricians, plumbers, carpenters and contractors.
As a Non-Profit Organization all revenue brought in by Fair goes right back into itself to maintain the Fairgrounds and provide for the next years Fair. As time goes on buildings begin to deteriorate, maintenance equipment breaks down and utility prices go up. 90% of Fair personnel are volunteers, people who love fair and give what they can and fight to make sure that there is a Fair for the upcoming year. Join the fight! Help us stay afloat in the "Sea of Bureaucracy". Your donation whether financial or in-kind will ensure that the Cambria County Fair remains a valuable resource to our community and yours.
